No. AstroVault runs entirely in your browser — viewing, sorting, organizing and storage all work without any desktop software. If you image with N.I.N.A.†, there's an optional plugin you can install to upload your subs live as they're captured — but it's never required.
FITS and XISF are first-class — including full header and metadata display — alongside common formats like TIFF, PNG and JPEG for finished images. You can also keep your equipment log files alongside your data, so everything for a session lives in one place.
Your account is free for as long as you like — no expiry, no credit card. For your first 14 days you can try every feature in AstroVault (storage limits still apply), then simply keep using the Free plan or upgrade whenever you're ready.
Drag in single subs or whole session folders at once. Files are stored securely with fast preview generation, and your plan sets the storage and file limits.
Previews are generated server-side so even large multi-megapixel FITS frames open quickly, while your full-resolution originals stay untouched in storage.
A mobile app and built-in plate solving are both on the way — coming soon. Your subs, projects and sky atlas will carry straight over when they land.
Your account moves to the Free plan and your data stays accessible within those limits. You can export your originals at any time — they're always yours.
